Magen Mishpaha, or Family Shield, is a non-profit organization committed to providing assistance to people in need whose case requires help the government should provide yet fails to do so: due to failures in inter-agency cooperation, lack of qualified personnel, or bureaucratic blunders.
Magen Mishpaha believes in a holistic view of citizen’s rights and needs, where an individual, with all the complexities of her situation, it at the focus of governmental attention. To this end, we concentrate on both solving particular problems of our numerous applicants and on strengthening development of their awareness of their rights, thus ensuring they have access to governmental services and utilize all the opportunities for personal development to which they have access.

Formally established in 2015, Magen Mishpaha is rooted in wide-scale voluntary activity, which has taken place over the last 15 years. Magen Mishpaha has provided compassionate and personalized assistance for more than 200 Israeli citizens who had found themselves, through no fault of their own, caught in bureaucratic entanglements, sometimes with dire consequences. Cases include unjustified removal of children from their families; arbitrariness by the authorities towards new immigrants and their abuse by unscrupulous officials; manipulative behavior towards the elderly; various situations of conflict and misunderstanding between the immigrants and public health system, Social Security Administration, educational establishment, etc.
